HELP KEEP MILILANI
CLEAN & LITTER FREE
MTA "GRAFFITI BUSTERS" PROGRAM

The Mililani Town Association, in cooperation with the Honolulu Police Department, sponsors a Mililani "Graffiti Busters" Program. With the assistance of volunteers from the community, graffiti on M.T.A., private, and public properties such park restrooms, street signs, utility boxes and street light standards, are removed as soon as discovered. The timely and immediate response in removing such graffiti eliminates the recognition such vandals hope to claim from their destructive activities.

At the same time, each graffiti is photographed and a copy is forwarded to HPD. The information is used to monitor possible gang activities and also serves as evidence should the responsible culprits be apprehended.

GRAFFITI BUSTER KITS

M.T.A. provides "Graffiti Busters" Kits for volunteers to check out and use to eradicate graffiti. The kits are kept at Recreation Center III and are available throughout the week. Volunteers may check out such a kit but must return the kit within 12 hours. Supplies are replenished by M.T.A. as needed.

HOW TO BE A GRAFFITI BUSTER VOLUNTEER

  1. M.T.A. homeowners may register as a Mililani "Graffiti Busters" Program volunteer by calling the association’s administration office at 623-7300. Name, address and phone number of the individual is recorded.
  2. When graffiti is noted in the Mililani community, the volunteer calls Recreation Center III at 623-7110 to determine whether the graffiti problem has already been reported and someone has checked out a kit to handle the situation. If no report has been filed, proceed to Step 3.
  3. Check out a "Graffiti Busters" Kit. Review the contents of the kit to ensure the necessary supplies are available in the kit. (A supply list is included along with instructions how each chemical is to be used).
  4. At the graffiti problem site, use the included camera to take a picture of the graffiti and log the date, time and location of the photo on the supplied Log Sheet.
  5. Use the appropriate chemical removal for the type of structure on which the graffiti has been applied. CAUTION: it is important the correct chemical is used on the surface. For example, HILTI remover cannot be used on painted surface or street signs ... damage to the surface will occur.
  6. USE THE SAFETY GLOVES AND GLASSES PROVIDED IN THE KIT. FOLLOW THE SAFETY PROCEDURES AS INDICATED WHEN USING SPECIFIC CHEMICALS.
  7. Return the "Graffiti Busters" Kit immediately upon completion to Rec. Center III. Notify the staff on duty if any supplies need to be replaced. Please note if you had any problems when using the kit.
